Albert Bourla Religion And Ethnicity
As for Albert Bourla’s religion, his faith is in Judaism. And, yes, he is of Jewish ethnicity.
He was born on 21 October 1961 in Thessaloniki, Greece, to his Sephardi Jews parents, who were among the 2 thousand of 50 thousand Jews that survived the Holocaust.
A firing squad almost executed his mother but spared her after her non-Jewish brother-in-law paid a ransom to a Nazi Party official. His father was out of the Jewish ghetto when Nazis took the residents to the Auschwitz concentration camp and fled to Athens. Three of his brothers also survived the camp and found each other in the old city.
Many people went to other countries like Palestine, America, Athens, or Greece to begin a new life after their survival. However, his father, Mois, stayed in Salonika and eventually married his wife, Sara.
Albert’s parents never spoke about revenge or anything but told him those sad stories and ended them with a celebration of life.
On 28 January 2021, Albert joined Sephardic Heritage International in DC (SHIN-DC). And at that organization’s Annual Congressional Commemoration for International Holocaust Remembrance Day, he spoke about his family’s story of tragedy and survival.
For all the accomplishments Bourla made, he credits them to the lessons his parents taught him. He learned the importance of living a positive life even if the past is full of darkness. He always looks up to his Jewish future, feeling proud of his heritage.
