Betty was Candy’s friend. She left her friend-turned-enemy with 41 axe wounds, but she was acquitted of the crime.

Candy was a mother and a homemaker who appeared to be normal and well-liked by her neighbors.

She and her husband, Pat Montgomery, moved into their dream house in Wylie, a Dallas suburb, in 1977.

Candy had everything she needed thanks to Pat. He worked for Texas Instruments as an electrical engineer.

She was able to stay at home with their son and daughter, and while she didn’t hate being a stay-at-home mom, she was bored with her life.

Candy was a Christian who attended the Methodist Church of Lucas, where she met Betty and formed a friendship.

She collided with Betty’s husband, Allan Gore, while playing church volleyball in 1978, and their relationship was irreversibly damaged.

Allan Gore of Wylie, Texas, is the husband of victim Betty, who was murdered on June 13, 1980, by his lover Candy Montgomery.

Betty was pregnant with their second kid and used to teach elementary school in Wylie.

She despised her job and resented being left alone while Allan was away on business. Her husband was dissatisfied with their sex routine, which was mechanical.

Moreover, Candy and Allan began dating on December 12, 1978, at the Continental Inn. They continued their romance for months, meeting every other week at the less expensive Como Motel, albeit the sex didn’t improve much.

Though Candy felt bad about lying to her husband, Pat, she was never uncomfortable around Betty. She even had a baby shower for herself.

Their meetings were less regular and less interesting once the baby was delivered.

Candy would tell Allan that she loved him, despite their understanding that there would be no emotional attachment.

On Friday, June 13, 1980, Allan was on a business trip. He dialed his wife’s number and discovered she was not answering.

The search team later entered the house to look for her and discovered Gores’ infant daughter in her crib, as well as Betty’s body in the utility room.

According to the police inquiry, Betty had been murdered by an axe. A bloodied footprint was also discovered at the crime scene. As a result of her discovery, Candy used a pair of lawn shears to damage her summer sandals.

Candy struck Betty in the body 41 times, 40 of them while her heart was still beating.
